China handovers Certificate of Vehicles; offers Tanzania more interest-free loans

The Chinese Government had donated 91 vehicles to the Government of Tanzania, worth Tsh. 9,450,000,000 which are purported to used for transportation at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNIC) and various Government institutions.

Dr. Servacius Likwelile, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and H.E. Dr. Lu Youqing, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the United Republic of Tanzania sign one of the four Agreements of economic and technical cooperation between the two countries.
The four signed Agreements were: (1) Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation, whereby China is to provide gratis worth Shilling 50 billion to the Tanzania Government; (2) Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation, whereby China is to provide interest-free loan to Tanzania Government worth Shilling 35 billion; (3) Exchange of Letters on providing Furniture to China-Aided Nyerere International Convention Centre, worth Shilling 12.75 billion; and (4) Exchange of Letters on Donation of Office Equipments to Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB), worth Shilling 0.40 billion.

China aid to Tanzania extends through various fields that include health, education, human resource training, infrastructure, power and energy and more.

Namibia hosts the SADC's Ministerial Council of the Organ meeting
Hon. Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Winner of the 2013 Public Sector Partner of the Year

Mr. John M. Haule, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation receives the Public Sector Partner of the Year 2013 Award on behalf of the Ministry from Mr. Ali Mufuruki, Chairman of the CEO Roundtable. The special ceremony took place last Friday 6 December, 2013 at the CEO Roundtable event held at the Hyatt Regency (Kilimanjaro) Hotel in Dar es Salaam.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to serve as the 'link' for various institutions in the country which has birthed many business and investment opportunities in the country. Such opportunities resulted in the recent businessmen roundtables that connected local businessmen and others around the globe, exchanging ideas, expertise and experiences in various sectors.
Permanent Secretary John M. Haule shows the Award he had just received on behalf of the Ministry, which is a recognition of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' contribution to the promotion of the private sectors.
This year, Tanzania hosted notable world leaders that included the State Visits by the Chinese President Xi Jinping, who had launched the China's Foreign Policy for Africa, and the U.S. President Barack Obama, who had launched the Power Africa Initiative.
Apart from that, there were other significant visits by Thai Premier Yingluck Shinawatra, the visit which opened new business ventures with Tanzania, the two Joint Permanent Commissions (JPC) between Tanzania and Oman, and between Tanzania and India for this year 2013. Further, Tanzania had also hosted the 2013 Global Smart Partnership Dialogue in late June 2013, which had gathered businessmen and world leaders from around the globe in Dar es Salaam.
These visits and among others, have opened more doors for businesses and investment opportunities that derive from China, the United States, Denmark, Netherlands, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia and other countries around the world.

Government's Statement on the Situation in South Sudan
PRESS STATEMENT OF THE
GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED REPUBLIC OF TANZANIA ON THE SITUATION IN SOUTH SUDAN

The Government of the United
Republic of Tanzania is gravely concern with the deteriorating security
situation in South Sudan, following the outbreak of fighting in capital, Juba,
and other areas since 15 December, 2013, which resulted in a number of causalities
of soldiers as well as civilian population. The fighting is a serious political
setback to South Sudan, the world’s new nation which was formed in 2011 after
two decades of war. Also, the fighting is a serious setback to the progress
made, so far, in the last two years of the existence of South Sudan, as a
sovereign state and will lead to the suffering of the civilian populations, who
had already started to enjoy peace dividend.
In this respect, the
Government of the United Republic of Tanzania joins the United Nations and the
African Union in urging the parties concerned with the fighting in South Sudan
to exercise restraint and refrain from any action that may further escalate
violence, causalities and humanitarian crisis in that country.
Furthermore, the Government
of Tanzania also calls upon the parties concerned to engage in dialogue in
order to find a solution of their differences through peaceful means, with due
respect of rule of law, human rights and constitutional legality.
Moreover, while reports indicate
that so far no Tanzanian has been affected by the fighting, the Government of
the United Republic of Tanzania calls upon all the parties concerned, most
particularly the Government of the Republic of South Sudan to ensure the safety
of all the people, not only the South Sudanese but also all the foreigners in
South Sudan, including Tanzanian Nationals.
Finally, the Government of
the United Republic of Tanzania wishes to express its readiness to support
efforts by the United Nations, the African Union and the International Community,
as a whole, aimed at finding a lasting peace in South Sudan.

Tanzania-Qatar for stronger economic ties
On the 18th of December 2013, the State of Qatar celebrated its National Day, an historical event which was commemorated in Dar es Salaam in cooperation with the Qatar Embassy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Members of the Diplomatic Corps and other distinguished guests. The event took place at the Hyatt Regency (Kilimanjaro) Hotel, with Guest of Honor H.E. Ambassador Rajabu Gamaha, Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation.
In commemorating the Qatar National Day, H.E. Tanzania-Qatar for stronger economic ties

Tanzania and Qatar have vowed to continue strengthening their economic ties for the years to come, gearing towards forging new ventures in oil and gas sectors.
Ambassador Rajabu Gamaha, Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, said that the Government of Tanzania is keen in ensuring that the two countries continue to prosper through their economic cooperation for the betterment lives of their citizens.
Ambassador Gamaha was speaking yesterday during the Qatar National Day ceremony that was also attended by former president Ali Hassan Mwinyi, former prime minister Dr. Salim Ahmed Salim, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Ambassador Alfani Juma Mpango of the Democratic Republic of Congo and other members of diplomatic corps. The ceremony was held at the Hyatt Regency (Kilimanjaro) Hotel in Dar es Salaam.
"I call upon the Qatari business community to come and invest in the Tanzania economy," said Ambassador Gamaha adding that the Government has put in place conducive investment plans to attract more foreign investors including businessmen from Qatar.
On his part, Qatar Ambassador Jassim Mohamed Mubarak Abdullah Darwish expressed his Government readiness in continuing bilateral ties that have existed in the field of technical, economy and investment.
He said that Qatari businessmen are expected to arrive in Tanzania early next year, to exchange knowledge in oil and gas sectors and to further explore opportunities that exist in Tanzania.
President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete had also sent out a congratulatory message to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, expressing the Government's desire and commitment to further enhance friendship and cooperation existing between these two countries.
