Tanzania and Pakistan enjoyed
notable growth in bilateral trade and economic cooperation in the last three
years, with the Asian country expanding participation in the Dar Es Salaam
International Trade Fair, said Hon. Angela Kairuki, the Deputy Minister for
Justice and Constitutional Affairs.
She commended H.E. Tajammul Altaf, the outgoing Pakistan High Commissioner to Tanzania,
for his role in fostering relations between the two countries. "You have
been an outstanding diplomat," she told him at a farewell dinner hosted by
the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Bernard K.
Membe on 23 October, 2013.
Hon. Kairuki, who represented Minister Membe, said during Ambassador Altaf's
tour of duty, three Pakistan naval ships visited Tanzania and negotiations
started to waive visa requirement for Tanzanian diplomatic passport holders
visiting Pakistan as a step towards full visa waiver.
The Pakistan High Commission in Tanzania, which was opened in 1967, was closed
in 2000 up to 2009, when Ambassador Altaf was appointed to reopen it. "I
have enjoyed non-stop hospitality since my arrival in Tanzania and unwavering
cooperation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," said the envoy, who is
being transferred to Prague, Czech Republic.
He accepted Hon. Kairuki's request to be Tanzania's good ambassador and promote
the country's tourist attractions in Czech.
