Nelson Mandela 1918-2013

A Freedom fighter, prisoner, moral compass and South Africa's symbol of the struggle against racial oppression.  That was Nelson Mandela, who emerged from prison after 27 years to lead his country out of decades of apartheid.  He died Thursday night at age 95.

His message of reconciliation, not vengeance, inspired the world after he negotiated a peaceful end to segregation and urged forgiveness for the white government that imprisoned him.  "As I walked out the door toward the gate that would lead to my freedom, I knew if I didn't leave my bitterness and hatred behind, I'd still be in prison," Mandela said after he was freed in in 1990.

Mandela, a former South Africa's President, battled health issues in recent years, including a recurring lung infection that led to numerous hospitalizations.

The government call on international community intervention

The Government has admitted that the issue of Palestine is the most complicated in the contemporary global relations and poses a great threat to peace, security and tranquility in the world. MOblog reports from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Speaking to invited dignitaries during the commemoration of the International Day of Solidarity for the people of Palestine in Dar es Salaam , the Director of the Department of Middle East in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Simba Yahya, said that, the unwillingness of the international community to take decisive action, political, military and territorial occupation of Palestine over the years has left millions of them to suffer.

“Hostilities between key players in the region and ultraconservative resistance to change, have all added up to complicate the situation.

“The interplay of the above led to a situation where the international community is simply seen to be doing too little and too late on the Palestine question, causing one party to the conflict to maintain pre-established positions that allow limited flexibility towards an acceptable solution,” he said.

Ambassador Simba Yahya, said that the status quo on settlements in occupied Palestinian territories continuously abrogated against UN Resolutions although on the other hand it is the duty of the international community to support national independence and sovereignty of the Palestinians people.

Director of the Department of Middle East, further said that through the able visionary, courageous and wise leadership of Mahmoud Abbas, more than 130 United Nations (UN) member states have recognized the State of Palestine; the People of Palestine have been granted ‘non-member observer state’ status in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), and Palestine is now a full member of UNESCO.

Palestine Ambassador to Tanzania H.E Dr. Nasri Abujaish gives a Pros and Cons of the on going crises in the Middle East between Palestine and Israel.

On her part, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Representative, Joyce Mends-Cole said that the annual Solidarity Day is an opportunity to reflect on the critical situation faced by the Palestinian people.

“It is the right time for us to consider our collective contributions and responsibilities as Governments, international or civil society organizations, towards Israeli-Palestinian peace,”

“This year’s observance takes place as Israeli and Palestinian negotiators work together towards the agreed objective of a peaceful, comprehensive settlement on all permanent status issues.

UNHCR Representative Joyce Mends-Cole gives her remarks on the Palestine saga and the role of the International Community in bringing peace and stability.

“I call on the international community to support the parties in this ambitious endeavour to fulfil the two-State solution, bringing about an end to the conflict. All parties must act in a responsible way and refrain from actions that undermine the prospects for successful negotiations,” she said.

She said that the situation in Gaza remains a source of serious concern; she reiterated her condemnation of all rocket fire into Israel, as well as of the construction of tunnels into Israel by militants.

On his part the Ambassador of Palestine, Dr. Nasri Abujaish said that every year the Palestinians remember their chairman the late Yassir Arafat who passed away by poison from Israelis on 11 November 2004.

“Also November is the month when we remember the day when Arafat declared the Independent state of Palestine on 15 November 1998. Today the statehood of Palestine is recognized by 133 countries,” he said.

He further said that the UN partition plan gave Israel 55 percent of the Palestinian land but the Israel grabbed 78 percent of Palestine land and in 1967 it occupied the whole of Palestine and other Arab lands.

A congratulatory message to the 96th Finnish Anniversary

H.E Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, President of the United Republic of Tanzania has sent a congratulatory message to H.E Sauli Niinistö, President of the Republic of Finland on the occasion of the National Day of Finland on 6^th December, 2013.

The message reads as follows:

“Your Excellency,

SauliNiinistö,

President of the Republic of Finland,

Helsinki,

FINLAND.

Your Excellency,

I am very pleased to join the International community to salute you, the Government and through you, the people of the Republic of Finland on this special occasion of Finland’s 96^th Independence Anniversary.

It gives me pleasure to note the impressive achievements Finland has made in different areas notably technology, forestry, education, health, scientific research and construction industry. In the area of development cooperation, Finland has always been at the forefront in supporting developing countries including Tanzania.

I have the firm impression that our two countries would continue to partner and open new avenues in trade and investment matters and thereby support and encourage the role of the private sector in economic development. Tanzania will continue to borrow a leaf from Finland through various channels so as to make the concept of partnership more meaningful.

Korea Kusini kuwekeza katika mradi wa umeme nchini

Kampuni kubwa za Korea Kusini kuwekeza katika mradi wa uzalishaji wa umeme nchini

Kampuni ya Daewoo ya nchini Korea Kusini, imetangaza kuwekeza katika mradi wa kufua umeme kwa kutumia maji, Mkoani Iringa. Taarifa ya uwekezaji huo ilitolewa na Mkurugenzi Mkuu wa Afrika na Mashariki ya Kati katika Wizara ya Mambo ya Nje ya Korea ya Kusini, Bwana Moon Duk-ho, wakati alipofanya mazungumzo na Mkurugenzi wa Asia na Australasia wa Wizara ya Mambo ya Nje na Ushirikiano wa Kimataifa, Balozi Mbelwa Kairuki, jijini Seoul, Jumatatu 3 Desemba, 2013.

Akifafanua kuhusu mradi huo wa umeme unaojulikana kama (Iringa Hydro-Power Project), Bwana Moon Duk-ho alisema kuwa tayari Kampuni ya Daewoo kwa kushirikiana na Taasisi ya Serikali ya Korea ya Kusimamia Rasilimali Maji, wamekwisha anza kazi ya upembuzi yakinifu na kwamba utekelezaji wa mradi huo utaanza mara tu kazi hiyo itakapamalizika mwanzoni mwa mwaka 2014.

Mradi huo utaokagharimu mamilioni ya Dola za Kimarekani unatarajiwa kuwanufanisha zaidi ya wakazi 2000 kutoka vijiji mbalimbali mkoani Iringa na mikoa ya jirani ya Njombe, Songea na Mbeya.

Upatikanaji wa nishati ya umeme ni moja ya changamoto kubwa kabisa inayoikabili Tanzania, kwani kati ya Watanzania kumi, ni wawili tu ndio wanaopata nishati hii muhimu.

Sambamba na uwekezaji huo, Serikali   ya Korea imedhamiria kuanzisha ushirikiano na Tanzania katika masuala ya nishati ambapo mwakani mwezi Februari 2014, Timu ya Wataalam wa Nishati kutoka Korea watatembelea Tanzania kwa ajili ya kufanya mazungumzo na Wataalam wa Wizara ya Nishati na Madini.

Akitoa salamu za shukrani, kwa niaba ya serikali ya Tanzania, Balozi Mbelwa Kairuki alisema,“mradi huu wa Daewoo unakuja wakati muafaka ambapo Serikali ya Tanzania chini ya dira ya Taifa (Vision 2025) imedhamiria kuongeza huduma ya upatikanaji wa nishati ya umeme kwa Watanzania kutoka asilimia 18.4 hadi 30 kwa ngazi ya taifa, na kutoka asilimia 6.5 hadi 15  kwa maeneo ya vijijini, ifikapo mwaka 2025.”

Aidha Balozi Kairuki, alitumia fursa hiyo pia kukaribisha wawekezaji zaidi kutoka Korea Kusini kuwekeza kwenye Sekta ya Viwanda na Utalii ili kutengeneza fursa za ajira.

Korea  Kusini ni miongoni mwa nchi marafiki wa karibu wa Tanzania na kwa zaidi ya miongo minne, Serikali za Tanzania na Korea Kusini zimeshirikiana na kusaidiana kwenye masuala mbalimbali ya kiuchumi na kijamii. Ujio wa kampuni kubwa kama ya Daewoo unaonesha mahusiano mazuri yaliyopo kati ya nchi hizi mbili.

Mbali na ushiriikiano katika kuendeleza sekta ya nishati, Serikali ya Korea ya Kusini pia imeahidi kuendelea kuisaidia Tanzania kupitia mradi wa kuanzisha vijiji vya mfano vitakavyowezeshwa kwa kupatiwa teknolojia za kilimo na miundombinu ya maji, umeme na barabara.  Tayari Korea imeanzisha vijiji vya aina hiyo huko Pangawe, Morogoro na Zanzibar.

Aidha, Korea Kusini, imeahidi kuendelea kuunga mkono jitihada za Serikali ya Tanzania katika kukuza elimu ya juu kwa kuongeza fursa za masomo kwa Watanzania hususan kwenye sekta ya gesi na mafuta.
