The Visiting Royal Highness, Prince Charles has said he was longing to see Mount Kilimanjaro saying the Mountain was the most iconic images of Tanzania.

Speaking at a State Banquent prepared in his honour by Tanzanian President, Mr Jakaya Kikwete, the Royal Highness said he was hoping that the weather and the sky will be open enough for him and his entourage to see the Mountain.

"During this visit my wife and I will visit not just Dar es salaam, but also Zanzibar and north of your country too, where I can only hope that the wheather will allow us to see Mount Kilimanjaro, the most iconic images of Tanzania" he said.

The Royal Highness, who is in a four-day official tour of Tanzania said, however, that Mount Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar that he was hoping to see were only a fraction of the treasures to be discovered in Tanzania.

He paid tribute to Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, the founding father of Tanzania for his remarkable legacy and dedication to preserve what he called priceless National Parks, Game Reserves and conservation areas, which he said can contribute to the World's precious biodiversity and to the country's economy.

On the bilateral ties between the two countries, the Royal Highness, said "our relationship may be historic one, but it is very modern one too.

He said  Britain has over the years, been the largest donor to Tanzania and that the British current budget will increase further over the coming four years.

On the celebration of the 50th Independence anniversary of Tanganyika, the Royal Highness had an opportunity to reflect on how far we have come.

"I think we would all agree that the fiftieth anniversary is very special" the Royal Highness noted.

The Royal couple entourage is set to visit Arusha today after a whole day tour of Zanzibar yesterday. While in Zanzibar the Royal Highnesses paid a courtesy call on the Zanzibar President, Dr. Ali Mohamed Shein before visiting the narrow streets of the Stone Town, House of Wonder, Bububu Primary School and the Spice Farms.

The Visiting British Royal Highness, Prince Charles has hailed the implementation of the Tanzania's Community based Management of fisheries resources in Rufiji, Mafia and Kilwa seascape project saying if sustained would have lots of impact to conservation initiatives.

Speaking at the Double Tree Hilton Hotel in Dar es salaam, the Royal Highness said he was impressed by the manner at which the project was being implemented by applying greater wisdom of the local communities.

He said the world needs to learn from the initiative demonstrated by the Tanzanian villagers.

"Paying attention at the local wisdom and local input in the conservation is good thing to any sustainable project" the Royal Highness noted.

He also noted that there was a need to build a global network aimed at streamlining the coastal conservation activities in a move to ensure sustainable agriculture and fishery activities.

The Prince of Wales also called for the global alliance in ensuring that poor countries like Tanzania were assisted to mitigate with the risk of the climate change.

The Royal Highness had the opportunity to give an award to the three districts of Kilwa, Rufiji and Mafia for the good use of donor funded projects, the World Wildlife Fund. The Prince of Wales is the President of the WWF in United Kingdom. 

The Royal Highness is in the Country with Duchess of Cornwall for the three day official tour. Tomorrow the Royal Highness are scheduled to visit Zanzibar and later on Arusha.

No Plan to Cut Aid to Tanzania says Bellingham, British African Affairs Minister

The British Minister for African Affairs Hon. Henry Bellingham has re-assured Tanzania of his country's unwavered commitment to maintain its bilateral assistance to Tanzania, saying it has no intention to cut its aid in Tanzania.

Hon. Bellingham was speaking in the context of a recent report that the British Government was planning to cut aid to countries which do not observe comprehensive approach to  human rights, including rights to homosexuals.

Speaking to Hon. Benard Membe, Tanzanian Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation in Dar es salaam, Hon. Bellingham said UK will continue to respect Tanzania traditions, values and customs.

He said Tanzania is one of the few countries in Africa with an outstanding human rights and governance record, making her one of the top recipient of the British Government aid.

In turn, the Tanzanian Minister thanked the visiting British Minister for the reasurance and clarification on the matter.

In their discussions, the two Ministers discussed various issues on the escalating piracy in the Coast of East Africa and political development in North Africa.

The British Minister later flew to Zambia.
