The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr Mahadhi Juma Maalim today presented work certificates (Exequatur) to the Indian Consul General in Zanzibar, Mr Satendar Kumar and the Consul General of Oman, Mr Ali Abdullah Sulaiman Al Rashid, in separate ceremonies at the ministry headquarters in Dar es Salaam.
Mr. Kumar informed the Deputy Minister that his government was financing construction of a vocational training centre in Zanzibar while preparations were underway for implementation of other development projects.
Dr Mahadhi commended India for the assistance, saying Tanzania and the Asian country had very strong relations.
The Oman Consul General told Dr Mahadhi that his country was preparing an international donor conference to marshal financial resources for the development of Zanzibar to be held this year. The Deputy Minister said Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda was made aware of the plan during his recent visit to the Sultanate of Oman and that the union government fully supported the idea.
Dr Mahadhi said Zanzibar and Oman had deep-rooted historical ties. "The history of Zanzibar is not complete without Oman and the history of Oman is not complete without Zanzibar," he explained.
