Pangestu is one of the candidates running for the position of the Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

Indonesia is one of the five countries that have passed through the first round of voting in the candidacy battle of the Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO). Other four candidates are from Brazil, Mexico, South Korea and New Zealand.

A decision on the next Director General is due by 31 May, 2013 and the new Director General is expected to assume his new duties on 1st September, 2013.
