Tanzania-Indonesia to Forge New Areas of
Cooperation

“Indonesia sees the potential in areas of economic growth in Africa, and we are committed to see that transition is carried out with Tanzania,” said Mr. Lasro Simbolon, Director for African Affairs from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
He said that the potentials are rich in forging business opportunities that exist between Tanzania and Indonesia and it is high time for the two countries to transform their bilateral relation in more sustainable economic cooperation. Mr. Simbolon said this when he paid a courtesy visit to Ambassador Mbelwa Kairuki, Director of the Department of Asia and Australasia in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation.
The two countries have had cooperation in sectors of economy, trade, agriculture, education and training, particularly under the South-South Cooperation scheme. Indonesia has provided training programs for agriculture, fisheries and information technology for the government officials and academicians.
On his part, Ambassador Kairuki first extended his congratulations again to the Government of Indonesia for marking its 67th Anniversary of Independence, highlighting strong bilateral relation that existed between the countries since 1955.
“It is time to review and explore new areas of cooperation that these two countries can share experience and benefit from one another,” said Ambassador Kairuki.
He said that Tanzania Government has a long-term development vision 2025 which is divided in 5 years short-term development plans, set to unleash economic growth potentials. The Ambassador spelled out areas such as infrastructures, agriculture, technological development and capacity building which are geared up to meet the first phase of 5 years development plans started in year 2010.
“Our Governments need to turn into joint bilateral commission, which will heighten economic opportunities and open new areas of investment,” said Ambassador Kairuki. He said the Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) between the two countries should be in line with national development plans that are geared up towards enhancing economic growth for the welfare of the people.
Ambassador Kairuki culminated his talks by praising the solidarity cooperation that has existed between Tanzania and Indonesia for years, and said that it is an opportunity for Indonesia-Africa cooperation framework to forge new economic growth. “We also welcome the idea of exchange visit between our leaders in the near future,” said Ambassador Kairuki.
