Chairman of the Fifth Committee for 67thsession
of the United Nations General Assembly, H.E. Miguel Berger, Ambassador and
Deputy Permanent Representative of Germany gives his opening
remarks, where he welcomes new elected members of Bureau that includes himself
as Chairman, Mr. João Augusto Costa Vargas of Brazil, Ms. Anna Reich of Hungary
and Mr. Bilal Taher Muhammad Wilson of Saudi Arabia as vice-chairpersons and
Mr. Justin Kisoka of the United Republic of Tanzania as Rapporteur. He also
thanked the previous Bureau which was under the Chairmanship
of His Excellency, Mr. Michel Tommo Monthé of Cameroon.
During
the discussion, the Committee pointed out the need for careful examination of
all important agenda items, such as human resources management, the scale of
assessments, Umoja/Enterprise Resource Planning and the International Public
Sector Accounting Standards, the United Nations common system, Programme
Planning, Capital Master Plan and the reports of the Board of Auditors (BOA);
Joint Inspection Unit (JIU) and the Office of Internal Oversight Services
(OIOS). Other items includes budget revised estimates such as financing the
outcome on RIO+20, Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Human Right Council
(HRC) and other main committee decisions.
