UN’s Committee Meetings officially kick off

As the General Debate of the United Nations' 67th Session closed its Session last week (1 October, 2012), the Six Committees of the UN have commenced their meetings with Tanzania Delegation gearing for its full participation in all Committees.
The Six Committees are: First Committee (Disarmament and International Security), Second Committee (Economic and Financial), Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural), Fourth Committee (Special Political and Decolonization), Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary) and the Sixth Committee (Legal and Administrative).

Ambassador Tuvako Manongi, Permanent Representative of the United Republic of Tanzania to the United Nations, is expected to address the Third Committee on 9 October, 2012 where he will highlight the Government's position in its continued implementation on various national strategies programmes such as poverty reduction (MKUKUTA for Mainland and MKUZA for Zanzibar).   

Furthermore, the Ambassador will also speak on the challenges of high maternal and child mortality rates, including unemployment-related issues.

On 10 October, 2012 Ambassador Manongi is expected to address the First Committee where Tanzania will make pledge for full cooperation and support to attain total and complete disarmament. Tanzania will also call upon other nuclear states and possessors to embark on the path of total and complete disarmament of such weapons, in guaranteeing peace, security and development.

Participants for the Committees will also include Deputy Ambassador Ramadhan Muombwa Mwinyi, Deputy Permanent Representative of the United Republic of Tanzania to the United Nations and Mr. Nyandallo M. Mboyi, Acting Director of the Department of Policy and Planning in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation.  
Others include Foreign Service Officers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation and the Tanzania Permanent Mission to the UN, Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Ministry of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, President’s Office - Planning Commission, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Home Affairs and others.
All meetings are held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA and are scheduled to last until December 2012.
