The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China says his Government is ever-ready to continue development projects geared for Tanzania, in efforts to alleviate poverty in the long run.

Speaking during his courtesy visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation earlier today, Ambassador Lu Youqing said there are currently various projects in place that include the gas pipeline project, the Mchuchuma-Liganga twin project that have coal and iron ore deposits that can be mined for over 100 years to come, and the Bagamoyo port, including other infrastructure projects.

Scheduled for completion by 2017, the port at Bagamoyo is geared to handle 4 million containers. The port also will be joined by a new 34-kilometres road from Bagamoyo to Mlandizi and a 65 kilometres of railway connecting Bagamoyo to the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (TAZARA) and Central Railway.

For his part, Ambassador Kairuki thanked Ambassador Lu Youqing for his country's continued support.  He highlighted that China has been a strong partner in development of the country in various projects that have direct impact to the people.

Ambassador Kairuki further assured of the Tanzania Government's cooperation in all projects, which some are expected to be ready during the upcoming 50 years celebration of the friendship, economic and trade cooperation between Tanzania and the People's Republic of China.

Ambassador Lu Youqing met with Ambassador Mbelwa Kairuki, Director of the Department of Asia and Australasia in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as further efforts to continue cooperation between the two countries.

The two countries have had strong bilateral ties dated back to the 1960s, during the time of the founding fathers of these two great nations, that is Mao Zedong and Julius Kambarage Nyerere.

The 50 years celebration is scheduled to be held next year in China.
